It’s a popular phrase, but in internet marketing ‘if you build it’ there’s no guarantee that you’ll get visitors. Whether you’ve created a blog or even a landing page, no one is going to drop by, never mind buy something, if they have no idea that you exist.
More importantly, if you’ve spent a few dollars on low end traffic advertising, you’ve come to realize that the traffic needs to be targeted, potential customers who have some interest in what you have to sell.
But you can drive good traffic if you build it, particularly if you are willing to invest in your business. It may not surprise you that one of my most popular ebooks is Free Web Traffic Made Simple. This a great resource if you are low on funds, but you might also want to think about taking it to the next level.
Pay per click (PPC) advertising is probably the most effective method of getting results. Of course, it requires some investment. Facebook, Google and Bing are each high quality traffic platforms and an investment in any or all of them is money well spent. It requires some experimenting with various keywords and other parameters but, all things considered, you’re likely to see results fairly quickly.
The most popular method for getting free traffic is to optimize your site for the search engines. This is known, of course, as SEO and it requires some investment in time to learn the most effective methods. Search Engine Optimization is a skill worth learning, regardless of your income level and it can be helped along with WordPress plugins like Yoast. Still, time is money and, depending on the level of competition in your niche, it may takes some time to draw a substantial amount of traffic.
But when it comes to keyword SEO, quantity doesn’t always beat out quality. That mere trickle of viewers who respond to a certain “obscure” or less than competitive keyword might not be large in numbers but they’ll be extremely large with regard to how targeted they are.
Conceivably, you could get much better results from the 100-a-month trickle viewers than you would from 1000 viewers responding to some other keyword.
The point is, any targeted traffic – which means any viewer who is specifically interested in what you’re offering – will provide solid and positive results. Whether that equates to more subscribers signing up for your mailing list or more people purchasing your products or services, it still spells success.
Of course, pay per click and keyword SEO aren’t the only super stars in traffic generation. Another very effective method of gaining traffic is to write and distribute your own articles.
Just pick a topic, one that relates to what you’re promoting while at the same time is associated with a targeted keyword. Then write an article around that topic and include links that funnel people to the page or pages that contain information about any product or offer you mentioned in the article.
Other methods of traffic generation include…
There are many options for getting more visitors and, undoubtedly, you will discover more as you begin to grow in experience. Yes, that familiar adage is true: If you build it they will come. But, rest assured, whether you use paid or free methods, they won’t be dropping by your new blog or website in any significant numbers until you develop some traffic generation strategies.
